Laguna Creek Parkway- a 13-mile waterway and hiking trail that traverse the flow of the Elk Grove, Laguna and Whitehouse Creeks, includes wetlands, biking, walking and riding trails, fishing and bird watching.

Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge - the 505th unit in the National Wildlife Refuge System. The NWR is located on the western edge of Elk Grove, a narrow stretch of floodplain, and home to over 200 species of birds and numerous wildlife and fish species.

Cosumnes River Preserve - on the southern edge of Elk Grove, a riparian habitat running along the Cosumnes River. Activities in the preserve includes driving tours, bird watching and kayaking.
