ARCO Arena is home to the Sacramento Kings of the NBA and the WNBA’s Sacramento Monarchs. ARCO Arena has twice been host to the NCAA Western Regional Men’s Basketball Tournament. The Sacramento Monarchs played their first basketball game at ARCO Arena on June 21, 1997 before a crowd of 9,858. Fans have continued to flock to ARCO Arena, which seats 17,317 for Monarchs basketball. Conveniently located near the intersection of I-5 and I-80, ARCO Arena is only five minutes from downtown Sacramento and 90 miles from the San Francisco Bay area.

As Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland A's, the River Cats have enjoyed considerable success in recent years on the baseball diamond, winning 4 Pacific Coast League South Division titles (2000, 2001, 2003 and 2004). More than 60 players have stepped up from the River Cats to the majors, including Cy Young Award winning pitcher Barry Zito and 2 recent Rookie of the Year Award winners, Eric Hinske and Bobby Crosby.

College Athletics

Sacramento State and UC Davis have enjoyed a friendly rivalry over the years, culminating each season with the awarding of the Causeway Cup. The Cup is fought for in 18 common sports shared between the two schools, with each sport assigned a point value.

UC Davis Aggies

With a thriving student population of over 30,000, UC Davis is widely known for its viticultural, medical and veterinary programs, as well as home to the UC Davis Aggies. UC Davis' athletic programs range from baseball to wrestling; they enjoy particular success with their water polo team, which is nationally ranked. UC Davis Stadium, which opened in April 2007, is located on the campus and seats 15,000. The stadium is home to the Aggies football team and women's lacrosse team.

As members of NCAA's Big Sky Conference, the Hornets in recent years have reached NCAA tournament finals in Volleyball (men's and women's) and Tennis, and have recently won NCAA's National Championship in Track and Field.
